David is Senior Strength and Conditioning Coach at New South Wales Institute of Sport in Sydney, Australia, but our paths crossed on 2 separate occasions. The first being, David was my S&C coach at the Welsh Institute of Sport (Sport Wales as it now called) in Cardiff when I first started in performance sport back in 2006 and then our paths crossed again in 2009 when David was an S&C coach at the time working for the English Institute of Sport (EIS) in Bisham Abbey. Mind Set Game #36: Through the eyes of a sprinter with Jarryd Wallace

On today’s episode of the mind set game podcast, I sat down with Jarryd Wallace. Jarryd is a 2 x Paralympian having competed in London 2012 and Rio 2016 in the T44 classification.

Not your typical high school track star turned professional athlete.

Detour at age 18 when he was diagnosed with Compartment Syndrome. In what should have been his first year as a Division 1 athlete, Jarryd faced the stark reality of amputating his own leg.

Set four World Records and become the nation’s fastest amputee. In fact, his speed surpasses that of many NFL running backs.

I love the quote he uses on your website: “Too many people, unfortunately, allow life’s challenges to define their existence. Jarryd made the decision never to let “disability” define him.”
